About this beach

Warnings and hazards

The water gets deep very quickly – be careful.

Canyon Lake is one of the deepest and cleanest in Texas – a popular place with plenty of outdoor activities for families and nature lovers. Its primary functions are flood control and water conservation, but apart from that, it’s a great recreational destination.

The area around the lake features all necessary amenities and various eating facilities for the comfort of visitors. Moreover, if you’re planning to stay for several days, you can either make use of the lake’s campgrounds and RV parks or rent a room. There are also apartments and cottages for rent available.

Swimming Areas

Canyon Lake boasts numerous recreation areas with awesome beaches. There are eight designated swimming areas around the lake. All of them are situated in beautiful green parks. Choose the place you like most and enjoy your stay at the splendid Canyon Lake!

Access and Parking

The entrance is free, so is parking. There are several parking lots with numerous parking spaces. Even when most of the spaces are occupied, there is still more than enough space for everyone at the lake – the area never gets overcrowded. The way from the parking lots to the lake is quick and easy.

Amenities and Food Outlets

There are public restrooms with toilet paper and rinse showers, which are not always clean, but overall, usable. There are many good spots for a picnic with picturesque views; many of the picnic tables in the area are shaded and complemented with a grill. If you prefer to have food served for you, there are some good eating places around the lake, their menus offer fries, chicken, hamburgers, cold beer, etc.

Enjoying Nature and Water

Picturesque parks stretching along the lake shores offer a wide range of opportunities to spend a rememberable weekend. You can stroll, enjoy nature, sunbathe on the beaches, and enjoy swimming in the lake.

There are plenty of hiking and biking trails in the area. The water in this river-fed lake is spectacular, bright blue and very clear. Swimming here is a pleasant experience.

In most places, the area for swimmers is separated with a rope. Nevertheless, be careful, the lake is deep and the depth near the shore can increase unexpectedly quickly – life vests are recommended for children and weak swimmers.

Water Sports

To have fun and cool off a bit in unforgiving Texas heat, you can try water sports using some of the equipment offered for rent on site. The variety of options is dazzling: wakeboarding, jet skiing, paddleboarding, kayaking, paramotoring, even tubing down the Guadalupe River – you can try any of these!

Museum Exhibitions

If you’re interested in history or just want to learn something new during your vacation, you should definitely visit the Heritage Museum at Canyon Lake. It is home to plentiful exhibits regarding paleontology, ancient farming, fossils, and the life of Native Americans. A place of interest for children as well as curious adults!

Visitor questions:

Question: Are any of the Canyon Lake beaches open for the 4th of July for the public? We’d like to know the best time & best beach for hanging out with family! We’d also like to grill out! Are we able to make reservations?
Asked by Laura Castaneda 9 months ago
Answer: Yes, most of the Canyon Lake beaches are open and offer an interesting program. For example, on the 4th of July 2023 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. there will be a Campground Parade at Guadalupe River State Park. As for the best arrival time, come as early as possible because all parks and beaches will be packed with people on the holiday and they close at capacity. All Canyon Lake beaches are family-friendly but if you are travelling with little kids remember that most beaches are rocky, meaning that you'll need to wear water shoes, and the beach access is steep in some places. Also, there is little shade, so bring an umbrella and sunscreen with you. Grilling is allowed on Guadalupe River State Park Beach, Canyon Park Beach, Jacobs Creek Park Beach, North Park Beach and Potters Creek Park Beach. Read more about these beaches on our site. For more information on which beaches will be open on the 4th of July, please contact Canyon Lake administration at (830) 964-3341. To make camping reservations, please call (877) 444-6777.

Asked by Abril Lopez almost 2 years ago
