North Park Beach is one of the great Canyon Lake Beaches. The nice little park offers various outdoor recreational activities such as camping, hiking, picnicking, fishing, sunbathing, swimming, and scuba diving. They hold live entertainment on-site every third Saturday of the month. It is allowed to drink alcohol though not in glass bottles. Nevertheless, it’s a quiet and family-friendly place.
Location and Access
North Park is located on the north side of Canyon Lake Dam on North Park Road and operates from April through September. Be aware that it’s open only on Fridays (9 a. m. to 10 p. m.), Saturdays (9 a. m. to 10 p. m.), and Sundays (9 a. m. to 2 p. m.).
The park features a small entrance fee. Overnight camping costs $12 per site. No reservations can be made since the park operates on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Campground Facilities
North Park offers 19 primitive tent campsites with lakefront views. There is no water or electricity and no RV camping is allowed. There are no showers either.
What the campground does have are covered picnic tables, fire rings, water fountains, and vault toilets. There are many shade trees to make the area more cozy and convenient. It’s a very quiet campground, where you can sleep well at night – a place of choice for a weekend family trip outside the city.
Beach
In order to access the lake, you have to climb down the rocks, so this beach isn’t handicap accessible. There are many plant stems along the shore and there is no designated swimming area, but you can swim anyway. The water in Canyon Lake is clear and refreshingly cool even on the hottest summer day in Texas. Note that there are no boat ramps.
Other Activities
North Park Beach is a popular scuba diving area. There are a variety of items on the lake bottom for scuba divers to explore. With depths to 100 feet and more, it’s a good place to exercise your scuba skills.
For those who prefer to stay on land, there are short trails running through the woods for a bit of hiking. Fishing in Canyon Lake is another good pastime if you’re in a mood to cast a line. Drinking a couple of beers with friends is permitted but not in glass bottles.
