Peters Point Beachfront Park features a beautiful sandy drive-on beach with easy access and all basic amenities where you can spend a few relaxing hours sunbathing, swimming, picnicking, playing with your children, flying a kite, strolling, or fishing. Most of the time, the beach is not crowded and visitors can enjoy some tranquility and seclusion.
Location and Access
Located at 4600 Peters Point Road in Fernandina Beach, Peters Point Beachfront Park is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. There is a large parking lot available. The beach rules also allow parking your vehicle directly on the sand if you have a permit and if you’re driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle (otherwise you’re likely to get stuck in the sand).
In addition to the parking lot, the park facilities include clean restrooms, outdoor as well as indoor showers, and water fountains. There is a dedicated picnic area with tables (some are covered and some are not), so you can bring your favorite food and drinks and have lunch in the fresh air.
The beach features good clean sand with a lot of shells. The water is not very clear but it’s soft, warm, and very inviting on a hot summer day. The shallow area is quite big, which is convenient for kids and those who can’t swim well. There are professional lifeguards on duty during the day, so swimming is quite safe. However, sometimes the ocean gets rough so caution is never too much.
Fishing is allowed in Peters Point Beachfront Park, so you can take your fishing equipment with you. Since the beach has plenty of shells, shelling is another good option to pass time. It’s also a great spot to stay camping overnight or bring your family for a picnic in the scenic ambiance – there is a dedicated picnic area with tables, so don’t forget to pack some delicious food and drinks!
