Being the most popular beachfront park in Amelia Island, Fernandina’s Main Beach Park features free parking, public restrooms, various sports facilities, convenient picnic areas, and good beach access – a great place for strolling, picnicking, playing outdoor games, sunbathing, swimming, shelling, and birdwatching.
It’s also a place where locals like to jog, walk their dogs, and meet sunrises in the morning. The park is very family-friendly, so if you happen to stay nearby, pack food, take kids, and drive towards a relaxing day off on the beach with your nearest and dearest!
Location and Access
Main Beach Park is located at 32 North Fletcher Avenue in Fernandina Beach. Parking is ample and free. If you arrive early in the morning, you can get a parking space facing the ocean.
Available Facilities
The plentiful park facilities include restrooms, outdoor showers, changing rooms, benches, shaded picnic areas, volleyball courts, a multipurpose court, a skate park, a children’s playground. However, the facilities are not always well-kept – the restrooms are sometimes dirty.
There is a large grassy area for picnicking and playing games of catch. If you get hungry or need any supplies, it won’t be a problem – there are a 7-11 shop nearby and a restaurant.
Swimming Conditions
The beach features wide expanses of soft sand, offering plenty of good relaxation spots for its visitors. The area is fairly clean and the sand is compact, which makes walking sessions even nicer. There are pretty many shells and shark teeth in the sand to collect! But this is also a reason to have your footwear on in order to protect your feet.
The water is nothing spectacular but also clean. If you decide to swim, be careful and pay due attention to riptide signs. If you’re a weak swimmer and wish to make your swimming experience a bit safer you may want to come in high season (which is from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day) – there will be professional lifeguards on duty.
Events
If you plan your visit according to the park schedule, you can visit one of the several yearly events that are held in the park. They include Barbecue Contest, Golf Putting Tournament, Dog Tournament, and many more. Just be aware that parking can be challenging at the time of the events.
Dog Policies
The beach rules allow pets, so feel free to bring your furry friend with you.
