The most northeastern beach park on Hilton Head Island, Folly Field Beach is a very popular place although it doesn’t have as many amenities as some of the other beach parks in the area.
Location and Access
You can find Folly Field Beach at 55 Starfish Drive, Hilton Head. It is at the intersection of Starfish Drive and Sand Dollar Road. It is also next to Port Royal. At this access point, parking is limited and must be paid for (coins and bills).
In high season, the park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. In winter, it closes three hours earlier, at 6 p.m. With a wooden boardwalk bridge and matting on the sand, the beach is wheelchair accessible.
Amenities
The park has the most basic amenities, including restrooms and rinse-off showers. There are also water fountains and a vending machine.
Swimming Conditions
The beach is long and spacious, with beautiful white sand. There may be plenty of people but still, there is plenty of space. Bad news for shell collectors – there are hardly any shells even at low tide so you are unlikely to find new collectibles here.
There are seasonal umbrella and beach chair rentals. The water at this beach is not as clear as at other beaches on the island but it’s clean and usually calm. There are lifeguards on duty during the tourist season.
Fishing
The beach is also popular with fishermen. You can catch whiting, blacktips, stingrays, etc. The best time to go fishing is in the evening when the tide is coming and bringing fish.
Dog Policies
Dogs are allowed during certain hours: in the early mornings before 10 a.m. and in the evenings after 5 p.m. If you don’t like dogs, probably you should visit in-between since many dog owners let their pets run off-leash.
