Although a little bit hard to find, the scenic Driessen Beach Park is a favorite spot among Hilton Head Island regulars since it rarely gets crowded and offers convenient beach access, cheap and ample parking as well as numerous beachside amenities. In this well-maintained park, everyone in your family will feel comfortable and entertained.
In addition to good swimming and sunbathing conditions, Driessen Beach Park offers plenty of shaded room to roam, a picnic area with grills and tables, and a playground to keep the little ones entertained if they get tired of the beach fun.
Location and Access
Driessen Beach Park is located on the northern half of the island among several resorts and condo complexes and may be hard to find for those who don’t know where exactly it is located. The address details are 64 Bradley Beach Road, which is off William Hilton Parkway at the end of Bradley Beach Road.
It is open Monday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in summer and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter. There is permit parking and metered parking with a low fee. The parking area is shaded. The available parking spaces are usually enough for all visitors but, on big holiday weekends, it is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot. With a wooden boardwalk to the shoreline and special matting on the sand, the beach is wheelchair accessible.
Amenities
Driessen Beach Park is equipped with well-maintained public restrooms and outdoor showers. You can get drinking water from filtered water dispensers. If you like picnics, bring your own food and drinks and occupy one of the tables in the picnic pavilion, which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are grills for BBQ.
If you have children, you might appreciate a children’s playground with slides and swings adjacent to the parking area.
Beach Access
The park boasts an isolated and well-kept stretch of the oceanfront shoreline with white sand. The beach is exceptionally wide so there is enough space for plenty of beachgoers. If you need beach chairs and umbrellas, there are seasonal beach rentals offering gear for an hourly or daily fee.
The water is clean. The bottom is generally flat and, except for windy days, the waves are small. It is a perfect spot for bodyboarding, wading, and splashing around. For your safety, there are lifeguards on duty during the tourist season.
Other Activities
There are walking trails running through a shaded wooded area covered with live oaks, cedars, and pines.
