Featuring one of the most tranquil and natural beaches on Hilton Head Island, Fish Haul Beach Park is definitely a must-visit! In addition to a gorgeous white-sand beach on the inlet, you will also get access to a free parking lot and the most basic amenities including restrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic tables. Fish Haul Beach looks more local-oriented and you are unlikely to run into big crowds here.
Location and Access
Located off Beach City Road at 120 Mitchellville Road, Hilton Head Island, Fish Haul Beach Park is open every day throughout the year. The open hours vary depending on the season (from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in high season and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter).
There is a small shaded parking lot that you can use at no charge. The walk from the parking lot to the beach is pretty short. With special matting, the beach is wheelchair accessible.
Available Facilities
The beach has restrooms and rinse showers. There is a small picnic area with tables. Be aware that there are no vendors or cafes so you should bring your own snacks and drinks if you are planning to stay long. There are no chair and umbrella rentals either so bring your own beach stuff.
Sand and Water
The beach is natural and secluded, with beautiful white sand. It is recommended to check the tide schedule before going. When the tide is low, the water is very shallow and there is a fairly long way out to deeper areas – which is good for kids and weak swimmers.
However, if you want to have a good swim without endless wading before, you should come during high tide. Since it is a bay beach, the waves are minimal compared to other beaches on the island. There are no lifeguards on duty so swimming is at your own risk.
Strolling, Shelling, and Wildlife Watching
Fish Haul Beach Park has more of a state park vibe and this place is really good for strolling, meditating, picnicking, reading, and wildlife watching. There is often quite a variety of shells and shark teeth to collect so if you have kids or like shelling yourself this is a great option to diversify your day on the beach.
There are also lots of hermit crabs, clams, and snails to see and you’ll have good chances to spot some cool jellyfish. Fish Haul Beach Park is the best location on Hilton Head Island for birdwatching. There are dozens of bird species including seagull, pelican, crane, egret, bald eagle, etc.
Dog Rules
Fish Haul Beach Park is absolutely dog-friendly so feel free to bring your furry friend to the beach. Just don’t forget to bring a doggy bag and pick up after your pet to always keep this place as clean and beautiful as it is.
