A must-visit spacious sandy beach with a pier if you happen to be in Fairhope. A great place to have a picnic after, before, or instead of swimming.
There's a beautiful park along the waters where you can stroll while your kids are having fun in the playground area. There's also a dedicated picnic area with tables. Lots of benches to relax on and watch the sun go down. You can also fish right from the pier, but you’ll need a saltwater fishing license.
Access and parking
The beach and the pier are located just down the road from the center of Fairhope. The distance is short, so it’s either a quick and easy drive or a nice relaxing walk through quiet neighborhoods.
Parking is available for vehicles of all shapes and sizes. The parking lot is located close to the beach and there’s a paved road right over the sand, which makes walking from one’s car to the beach quick and convenient. The area of the parking lot is filled with lovely flowers and has a pretty fountain at the center.
Delightful walking places
If you’re looking for eye-pleasing walking places, there’s a flower garden with rose bushes and a beautiful fountain. Apart from that, there’s an absolutely lovely side park with flowers (in spring, don’t miss azaleas in bloom!), plenty of benches, picnic tables, walking paths – an excellent spot for having lunch in the fresh air, swimming in or feeding some ducks.
Eateries and facilities
Fairhope Municipal Pier Beach doesn’t boast amenities such as rinse showers or changing rooms, but it has public bathrooms. They aren’t very clean but still usable.
In the low season, there aren’t many businesses open on-site. There’s a local café. On the pier, halfway into the sea, there’s a restaurant and a bar, where you can dine and have a drink enjoying the great views of the bay, cliff, and park; or you can take your food out – the pier area provides many picnic tables and benches.
Pier activities
Fairhope Municipal Pier is a great place for watching sunsets or enjoying stunning views across the bay on sunny evenings. It’s a calm and tranquil place with lots of playing children, picnicking families, and older couples walking hand in hand.
Fishing off the pier is also a popular activity, you can either watch local fishermen bringing in their catch or try fishing yourself if you have a proper license to do that. The view of boats going by is relaxing. The pier is definitely a worthwhile place for having a stroll!
Note that non-residents can be charged for entrance during the summer months.
