Tybee Island North Beach is a nice getaway place for families and couples with sugar-white sand and a lot of space. In high season, there are many visitors, but the beach is wide and doesn’t seem very crowded. It’s a very short drive from Savannah, so it’s easily accessible.
There are many eateries, and shopping places, and various things to do nearby. On the beach, visitors enjoy swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, playing in the sand with kids, walking, watching ferries and freighters, or fishing on the pier.
Sand And Water
The sand is very clean and sugar-white, with some small dunes. It’s really nice to walk bare-footed; the beach is well-maintained. As for the water, unfortunately, sometimes it gets murky and not very clear. Many visitors enjoy swimming, though. If you join in, note that the slope of the beach is rather steep in some areas.
There are some jellyfish in the water, which don’t bother adults much, but, if you take kids, you should watch them closely. Note that there are no showers, so rinsing the sand and saltwater off your body can become a problem.
Animals And Shelling
Almost every day, you can see dolphins swimming near the shore. There are also many seagulls and pelicans. If you go with children, they’ll be excited to see these beautiful white birds and friendly sea animals. Moreover, kids may also get very enthusiastic about shelling here. There’s even a chance to find a shark tooth if you’re lucky enough.
Dog Policies
Unfortunately for dog owners, dogs are not allowed on all parts of the Tybee Island North Beach, even leashed, and even in the off-season. If you take your four-legged friend with you, you’ll have to leave it in the car.
Parking Information
There is on-street parking in the area, but if you wish to park your car with convenience, you can use a metered parking lot. Arrive early if you want to make sure that you’ll find a free space – the parking lot fills up quite quickly. The terminal takes credit cards, and the fee is 2$ per hour.
Amenities And Services
On Tybee Island North Beach, there is a really nice pier with concessions, changing rooms, restrooms, and even shaded picnic areas with tables. A great place for walking, fishing, or having a picnic, even on a rainy day. Food and drinks are available on site.
On the beach, you can also rent chairs and umbrellas for more comfort or use one of the swings on the shore (for free) – a good choice for a romantic date. If you like sports activities, probably, you’ll be glad to know that there are volleyball nets provided on-site.
