About this beach

Warnings and hazards

Currently, a big part of the street is under construction.

Sebastian Street Beach is a quiet, relaxing, LGBT-friendly spot on the beautiful sandy shore of the Atlantic Ocean. The area is scenic and well-groomed. Not overcrowded.

Many of the visitors are older people. However, it’s not a problem for youngsters and kids to have a blast as well – overall, the crowd is quite diverse and very friendly. You can see entire families relaxing on the shore. It is also worth mentioning that Out Traveler has named Sebastian Street Beach the “hottest U.S. Gay Beach”.

Location and Access

Sebastian Street Beach is part of a larger Fort Lauderdale Beach. Located along the corner of Sebastian Street and A1A, Sebastian Street Beach boasts a great location in proximity to all kinds of restaurants and shops. Good accessibility makes the beach a perfect place for a quick trip. You can find it right across from the Casablanca Café and it may be difficult to notice the beach sign so watch carefully.

There is plenty of public parking and finding a space is usually not a problem. The beach is just perfect for a quick trip – very accessible.

Amenities

If you fail to find restrooms just ask locals – they will show you the way. The beach also has outdoor showers for rinsing off the sand and the saltwater. Bars and dining places are as close as across the street from the beach. There are also plenty of hotels and Airbnb accommodations nearby.

Sand and Water

You can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas on-site. The sand is clean and bright white and there is plenty of space to sunbathe or exercise, or play volleyball. If you go a little bit north, you will see jet ski rentals – great news for watersport enthusiasts.

The water is crystal clear, beautiful and warm. There are professional lifeguards on duty so swimming is quite safe. Be aware that depending on weather conditions, the sea may become rough and the shore may get covered in seaweed.

Other Activities

Keep your eyes open – if you’re lucky enough, you can even see a manatee swim by! People-watching is another good activity for the area, where you can see so many different nationalities. The beach is also a great place to watch the fireworks on July 4.

Visitor questions:

Question: How do you rent the chairs and umbrellas?
Asked by Lindsey 5 months ago
Answer: There are umbrellas and sunbeds turned upside down right on the beach. Address the lifeguard to rent one. Make sure to come early to secure yourself a sunbed.
Question: Hi Phil! Do you know if there are any bicycle racks at Sebastian Beach?
Asked by Tom McCoy almost 4 years ago
Answer: Hi Tom! Yes, there is a small bicycle rack opposite the Ritz Carlton, which is within a 1-minute walk from Sebastian Street Beach. Go south along North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard past Castillo Street. I also saw some people park their bicycles near road signs.
