With its lovely ocean vistas and 2.5 miles of sandy beaches, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is a small and extremely attractive seaside community on Florida’s east coast. It offers a vibrant beach area for swimming, sunbathing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and scuba diving; Anglin’s Pier for strolling and fishing; and Commercial Boulevard for shopping and dining out.
Thanks to the absence of high-rise buildings and in contrast to many surrounding cities, this place has maintained its Old Florida charm. The ambiance is laid-back and family-friendly.
Location and Access
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is located along the Atlantic coast just north of Fort Lauderdale. If you need the address details, they are 4501 North Ocean Drive, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida. The beach is just 10-15 minutes from the highway; there is plenty of metered parking available everywhere.
Amenities
There are restrooms, showers, benches, and shelters to hide from the heat of the sun. There is a pier where you can stroll, sit, enjoy the views, or fish. In order to enter the pier, you have to pay a $2 fee.
The town is very small and everything is within walking distance. There are food concessions as well as restaurants with live music and waterfront terraces right on the beach. You can choose from a wide variety of cuisines, however, it can be a problem to find a vegetarian café.
Beach
The beach in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is tranquil and not overcrowded, nothing like Fort Lauderdale or Miami. It’s clean and great for sunbathing, swimming, and engaging in watersports. There is plenty of plush sand for children’s games.
The waters are blue-and-green and clear – just gorgeous! The sea is quite shallow, which makes swimming safer but there are no lifeguards. There may be strong currents so please exercise caution and keep a close eye on children.
Diving
The area is considered Florida’s diving capital – there is a natural coral reef located as close as just 100 yards off the shore, i. e. within swimming distance. The magnificent three-tier coral system attracts plenty of divers each year.
