About this beach

Warnings and hazards

Plenty of jellyfish – take a jellyfish sting relief with you.

No lifeguards.

No shade – bring an umbrella or tent.

In 2018-2019, due to the Harbor Beach construction project, some exits may be closed.

North Beach is a perfect place for a quick trip without preparations. It’s far from spectacular but, all in all, very decent – well-maintained, clean, with plenty to do for visitors of all ages.

There are all necessary beach amenities, a variety of restaurants, a long convenient sidewalk along the shore and very close to the water, allowing you to be on the beach and keep your shoes away from the sand at the same time.

There may be crowds on holidays and weekends, especially, in the evening, but in general, the beach boasts fewer visitors than many other beaches in the area.

Easy Access and Free Parking

Like most city beaches, North Beach boasts easy access and offers plenty of parking, either free of charge or for a small fee. On busy days, it is recommended to arrive earlier to occupy a convenient space. Otherwise, the parking is ample and always available.

Good Restaurants and Accommodation

One of the best things about this beach is that it’s located close to all kinds of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars to fit any budget. There’s anything you may need – from steaks and seafood to vegetarian dishes and Asian noodles. Many of these eating places provide comfortable seating with the ocean view.

If you’re looking for a place to stay overnight, there are many options, including a diverse chain of hotels directly on the shore. There, you’re likely to find some places by your budget and personal preferences.

Beach Facilities, Sidewalks, and Entertainment

North Beach is a well-kept and convenient beach, featuring such free amenities as public restrooms, changing areas, and outdoor showers to wash the salt off your body (some of the facilities are easy to find right next to the Lexington). Unfortunately, many visitors don’t bother to clean up after themselves, so the premises are not always neat and clean.

Well-maintained sidewalks are running along the beach – it's a perfect place for strolling, jogging, or walking a dog. They’re located quite close to the waterline, so the high tide may cover them in some areas.

Apart from the sidewalks and beach amenities, North beach boasts several volleyball nets – a nice opportunity to warm up and make your blood run faster before taking a dip. If you like museums, there are the famous Lexington and Aquarium within walking distance. Dolphin Park is a great place for children, with a beach playground and outdoor musical instruments.

Sand and Water Condition

Since the beach is located in the bay and protected by Mustang Island, the waves are small and the water is quite safe for children despite the fact there are no lifeguards.

Nevertheless, look out for jellyfish – they’re frequent visitors in the bay. It is recommended to have a jellyfish sting relief remedy with you. The sand is quite rough with a lot of broken shells and pebbles, which feels hard on feet.
