Another name of this beach is South Packery Jetty Beach. It’s a calm and quiet sandy beach serving a kind of a border between Padre Island and Mustang Island.
It receives far fewer visitors than the other beaches in the area and offers nothing extraordinary but a classical beaching experience, including swimming, sunbathing, building sandcastles, picnicking, fishing, and snorkeling. A great place to spend a holiday in serene natural surroundings, either alone or with your nearest and dearest.
Overall, it’s a convenient destination for quick visits with children, since it’s located close to hotels and condominiums, and, at the same time, never gets overcrowded.
Access and Parking
You may find it a little bit difficult to find the beach – the only road leading here is Access Road 3A. On the other hand, it won’t take much effort to park your vehicle, since there’s a lot of space on the sand and on-site parking is allowed for those with a beach parking permit. The beach is open day and night all year round and entrance is free.
Sand and Water
The place is just beautiful, so good to stroll and watch bright orange sunsets – with an awesome boundless sky over a wide and flat beach landscape. The sand is white, fine, and soft, fit for children’s games and castle building. There’s a lot of space for everyone and it’s easy to find a nice private spot to spread a towel and relax in a beautiful and peaceful ambiance.
The water is clean and clear, good for swimming in; nevertheless, pay due attention to weather forecasts and be careful in the water: there’s a possibility of strong riptides.
Other Activities
South Packery Channel Beach is a place to enjoy meditative strolls and impressive sunsets. Shelling is always an option. In addition to that, early in the morning or late in the evening, there are good chances to see the local fauna, including sea turtles.
Another good option to entertain yourself is by fishing. Many fishermen like to come to South Packery Channel Beach since this place offers opportunities for easy fishing and a big catch of various fish species, including grouper, trout, kingfish, and tarpon.
The best fishing area is around the jetty. You may either fish from the jetty or climb down and fish from the rocks. If you’re a beginner and don’t have all the necessary fishing equipment, check the state’s Tackle Loaner Program.
