McGee Beach lies within a short distance of downtown Corpus Christi on the Corpus Christi Bay and offers its numerous visitors enjoyable stay with beautiful views and great swimming in calm and clear water, without strong waves and excessive seaweed, comfortable for children as well as adult swimmers.
The location is very convenient and easy to access; free parking, all necessary facilities, and different types of rentals are nearby. The beach is well-maintained and features clean, manicured sand for relaxing barefooted walks and some sunbathing. If you like fishing or want to try it, you’ll duly appreciate the jetty!
Easy Access and Free Parking
The beach is open 24 hours a day throughout the whole year. There are no entrance fees. In contrast to many other beaches in the area, here, you can’t drive on the beach and park directly on the sand, but the plus is that no parking permits are required. There is plentiful parking and all of it is free of charge. You can occupy a spot either along Shoreline Boulevard or in the parking lot near the beach.
Proximity to Facilities
McGee Beach is very good for families with children since all necessary facilities are either on-site or in the area nearby. There are public restrooms and showers. The beach is very close to downtown Corpus Christi (the closest one to its huge hotels with numerous tourists), which means it won’t take much time and effort to reach all kinds of restaurants, stores, and accommodation after your long day at the beach.
If you need some beach equipment, like sunbeds or umbrellas, you don’t have to bring everything with you – there are rental services at the beach.
Calm Swimming
McGee Beach is located not on the gulf but on the Corpus Christi Bay and therefore offers very calm, laid back swimming, without the necessity to fight big waves, which is just perfect for kids and those who are not very good swimmers. Probably surfers will be disappointed, but if you’re planning a traditional sunbathing-and-swimming session, this is a place of choice for you!
