A nice beach to visit on your way from Texas to Louisiana. The murky waters did not look too welcoming so we decided to skip the swimming part 😅
This rather large beach looked very family-oriented with lots of kids everywhere and families sitting around the picnic tables. Although it says "No Animals" on one of the signs, we did see a few pet-owners with their dogs (leashed).
What I found disappointing was the amount of litter lying around the area. Few times I saw glass right in the sand, so you probably don't want to take your shoes off.
Additional information about the lake (including lodging options, restaurants, and entertainment) can be found on the official website of the town.
Places to stay
Lake Charles is a somewhat popular destination, so finding rooms should be no problem. However, there aren't many hotels near the beach. Days Inn by Wyndham is probably the closest you can get. Other options include:
If you're willing to spend some extra cash, you might want to consider staying at the Golden Nugget. It's a gorgeous four-star property with a private man-made beach:
They also offer an amazing outdoor pool area:
- 2 hours from Houston, TX
- 1 hour from Port Arthur, TX
- 1 hour from Lafayette, LA
What we loved
- Few people around
- Family-friendly atmosphere
Additionally, there's a number of beaches near North Beach (Lake Charles) which you can visit:
