IB Magee Beach is one of the cleanest easily accessible beaches in Texas, featuring a fishing pier, all the necessary amenities, and an RV park, so it presents a great option for beach camping at a good price in Port Aransas.
It’s located within close proximity to the town, just down the way from the ferry. A really beautiful and relaxing place for families as well as couples and individual visitors. Here, you can stroll along the seashore, fish off the pier, make a bonfire gathering with your friends, or – if you’re a dog owner – take your pet to the beach and have a good time together.
Access and parking
IB Magee Beach Park boasts a perfect location, right in the town, not far from the ferry, so it’s really quick and easy access. There is plenty of parking; moreover, you can park your car right on the beach. Nevertheless, note that overnight parking and camping require a permit.
Eateries and shops
Since the beach is located very close to the town, there are bars, shops, and a variety of restaurants to choose from within walking distance. The places are different, and, depending on your budget and current needs, you can have a quick snack on-the-go or enjoy an excellent meal in a cozy atmosphere – whatever you may want.
Campground
The campground is located behind a lockable gate, so strangers cannot access the area during the hours of darkness. If you want to come or go at night, you should know the gate code. The park offers spacious though not secluded campsites, but if you’re lucky, you can get a really nice spot.
The park amenities include electric and water hookups, coin laundry, a well-maintained and air-conditioned bathhouse with restrooms and hot showers, which are cleaned daily. You can make use of the bathhouse amenities 24 hours straight, but note that you’ll also need a code to access the bathhouse at night. There is also free Wi-Fi, powerful enough for checking mail and surfing the net.
If you decide to have lunch in the fresh air, you can use one of the wooden picnic tables with canopies or go make a bonfire on the beach (bonfires are not allowed in the campground area)
The staff are extremely friendly and always ready to help. A year permit for camping costs $12 and allows to camp on the beach from January till December.
On the beach
The sand is white and clean, there are trash cans throughout the area. The water is clear and blue and features no jellyfish. Note that the beach is located on the gulf side of the island, so get ready for bigger waves. Usually, there aren’t many visitors, so there’s enough space for everyone.
The most lively spot is located nearby the pier – you can even walk in on a yoga class or a kite contest there. If you want to access the pier, you’ll have to pay a reasonable entrance fee, and then you can stroll over the water, watch the sea life, try fishing or watch other people do that.
