Hollywood Dog Beach is a beautiful waterfront location that is open for visitors with dogs for 4 hours every day throughout the year. It can be a bit pricey but there aren’t many beach opportunities for dog owners in Florida these days and Hollywood Dog Beach is one of the best choices. It is a relatively small beach but it’s great for dogs as well as their owners. The area is scenic and tranquil.
Location and Access
Hollywood Dog Beach is located at 4900 North Surf Road, Hollywood, Florida. It is open all year round but visitors with dogs can enter only during the specified hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. These hours vary depending on the season: from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. from November through May and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. from April through October.
You can buy daily passes or six-month passes from a ranger on-site or at the Department of Recreation and Cultural Arts (1405 South 28th Avenue). The daily pass is $5 for Hollywood residents and $10 for out-of-town visitors. The price is calculated per dog. Additionally, you have to pay for parking if you go by car ($4 per hour).
Rules
Visitors and their pets are required to comply with the standard dog park etiquette rules. All dogs must have rabies vaccine tags visible. You are expected to pick up after your dog. If you bring an aggressive or unruly dog, you may be asked to leave. Make sure you arrive in the designated hours and stick to the designated location and remember – the area is monitored by a park ranger.
Amenities
Don’t expect to see doggie bag dispensers or water hoses. The beach doesn’t even have public restrooms. Bring everything you may need with you – there are no stores in the area either. However, there are a couple of restaurants nearby.
Sand and Water
Most visitors clean up after their pets so the beach is quite clean. If you like shelling you can give it a try here and get some nice collectibles. The emerald water is always clean and clear so go ahead and swim together with your furry friend! There is a bay-watch tower with a team on duty.
