Located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, the city of Hollywood includes about 5 to 6 miles of Atlantic Ocean beach. It is beautiful, well-kept, and offers a wide range of activities – a nice place for a beach vacation, good for family tourists as well as single travelers.
Hollywood Beach is a touristy, vacation-type location so be prepared for high prices and parking fees. The good news is that the area is less crowded and features a more laid-back atmosphere than Fort Lauderdale or South Beach.
Location and Access
Hollywood Beach is open to everybody and has no admission fee. However, getting a parking space for the whole day will cost you $24. During the peak season, parking gets tricky so it’s better to arrive as early in the morning as possible.
There is a trolley service connecting Hollywood Beach and Downtown Hollywood, which is convenient for those who want to experience everything the city can offer.
Amenities
There are convenient, clean bathrooms near the parking garage. You will find restrooms and showers at other spots as well. If you want to have a picnic you can use the picnic area with grills for cooking. There are umbrellas and beach chairs at various locations. You can rent a cabana and two loungers for $40. For kids, there is a water play area to splash and cool down.
Sand and Water
Hollywood Beach is very clean although it can get a lot of seaweed depending on the season. Its sandy part is quite wide and consists of soft, white sand with plenty of shells and coral to collect. The clear and turquoise Atlantic waters are warm and calm enough to swim. Snorkeling is also a good option. There are lifeguards on duty all along the beach.
Hollywood Beach Broadwalk
Extending for nearly 2.5 miles along the beach, the famous brick-paved Hollywood Beach Broadwalk is used by locals and tourists for strolling, jogging, biking, and rollerblading. There is a dedicated bike lane so that the bicyclists would not disturb the other visitors.
The Broadwalk is lined with hotels, restaurants, bars, bike rental vendors, souvenir shops, a theatre, children’s playground, and a farmer’s market. This lively place offers plenty of yearlong activities and live music.
