One of the most popular places on Hilton Head Island, Coligny Beach Park is an oceanside park with beach access. There are walking and biking paths, gazebos, swings, restroom and shower facilities, seasonal beach rentals, and lifeguards. On the one hand, it’s a beautiful and convenient swimming hole for family visitors. On the other hand, it gets really crowded in the high season.
Location and Access
The park is located at 1N Forest Beach, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. It is at the end of Pope Avenue off Coligny Circle.
The beach parking lot is free but be aware that it fills up quickly and security close it when it becomes full. Due to safety matters, they reopen it only when several spaces become available so it is recommended not to wait and return at a later time. Alternatively, there is also a large paid parking lot nearby. If you go by bike, there are bike racks in the park.
Coligny Beach Park is open every day from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The winter hours are shorter – from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The park hours change according to Daylight Savings Time. The beach in the park is wheelchair accessible – there is matting leading down to the water.

Shopping and Dining
If you need to buy some food, drinks, and souvenirs – everything is close! Just across the street from the beach, there is Coligny Plaza where you will find all kinds of shops and restaurants.
Beach Access
The beach gets quite crowded in summer so it is better to arrive before 9 a.m. if you want to beat the crowd. The sand is white, with few shells. There are umbrella and chair rentals. There is also a set of binoculars to look out to the ocean. The sea is usually calm and the waves are small. There is a lifeguard station and lifeguards are on duty during the season.
