In 2013, Stewart Beach was rated one of the ten best beaches for families according to Family Vacation Critic. It is located in Galveston at the crossing of Broadway Avenue and the famous Seawall.
If you’re planning a beach day with your nearest and dearest in a safe and convenient atmosphere, Stewart Beach is a place of choice for you. It offers all necessary beach amenities, such as public restrooms, rinse showers, food outlets, children’s playground, pavilion, and sports courts where you can play volleyball.
If necessary, you can rent chairs and umbrellas on site. People are friendly and the beach rarely gets overcrowded.
Alcohol is not allowed, so you’re not going to encounter wild companies and drunks. Moreover, you and your kids can feel perfectly safe in the water since the beach is supervised by professional lifeguards.
Access and Parking
In the summer months, Stewart Beach is open from nine to six on weekdays and from eight to seven on weekends. In autumn and spring, the working hours are shorter. Note that it’s the time when the park with amenities closes, nevertheless, you can still stay at the beach. For precise information, please check the official schedule since the hours are seasonal and can be changed.
If you are not planning to stay for more than two hours, you can make use of some of the nearby parking down the side roads. The beach features a chargeable parking lot. You can pay for admission either by credit card or in cash: it’s $12 from Monday thru Thursday and $15 from Friday through Sunday. They also sell seasonal parking passes for $50.
Amenities
In the main building next to the beach, there are showers and water closets in a satisfactory condition, although some of them may require maintenance. You’d better take flip-flops and a bucket for you toiletries since there are no shelves in the showers. In the same area, you can find food concessions and a gift shop to buy some souvenirs to bring home.
The food selection in the concessions is far from diverse, so it’s better to bring your own food or eat somewhere else if you’re planning a longer stay at the beach.
Sand and Water
Overall, the beach is clean though sometimes debris is washed up in considerable quantities. The sand is free of litter and trash and contains shells, so you may entertain yourself by some beachcombing.
It’s also quite comfortable to stroll, stepping on this hard-packed sand. The water is far from crystal clear, muddy and with seaweed, but still, it’s quite warm and enjoyable. Moreover, you have a chance to see dolphins not far from the shore!
