Playalinda Beach is one of the most popular beaches with dedicated nude areas in Florida. It’s located in a national park near the Kennedy Space Center and is known for its pristine, undeveloped shoreline, serene environment, and beautiful wildlife.
The nude section is located at the north end of the beach, followed by an LGBT-friendly area. The other 12 sections are used for fishing, surfing, and more traditional beach recreation. Nevertheless, sometimes you can also spot nude bathers at sections 11 and 12.
Location and Access
Playalinda Beach is located within the territory of Canaveral National Seashore, a national park, at the following address: Florida State Road 406/402, Titusville, Florida. The national park is open from 6 a. m. to 6 p. m. every day. There is an entrance fee of $10 for vehicles and $1 for walkers.
The beach stretches for 4 miles and features 13 parking areas with public restrooms. If you go for nude recreation, then you need beach entrance 13. The beach is separated from the parking lot by large sand dunes, which block the view of nude bathers if that disturbs you. If you want to stay away from them, go to sections 1-10. The LGBT-friendly section goes right after the nudist one.
Facilities
The beach zone is mostly non-commercialized and the facilities are limited to restrooms and Apollo District Visitor Center in the national park. Unfortunately, there are no rinse showers or any other facilities with running water (such as sinks). Take food and drinking water with you, because you won’t find any cafes, snack concessions, or ice-cream stands at the beach.
People
Generally, visitors of the nude section of Playalinda are an older hippie-type crowd, including gays, heterosexual couples, and true naturists. It’s a no-judgement zone where you can feel free to be yourself unless you behave rudely and disturb other people.
Legal Matters
You should always keep in mind that Florida law doesn’t permit nudity at beaches or other public places. However, this is generally unenforced at Playalinda Beach. Authorities can be called only if some accident takes place or if visitors behave improperly – for such cases, it’s better to keep a cover-up close to you.
Space Rocket Launches
Apart from being a popular spot for nudists, Playalinda Beach is also famous for its close location to the Kennedy Space Center, so many people come here to watch rocket launches which are truly an amazing spectacle! But if you want to make sure you’ll see one, you should check the official launch information on their website and plan your visit accordingly.
Swimming Conditions
The sea is bright turquoise – very beautiful and clear. The sand is fine, yellow, and clean. The water is enjoyable to swim but can be a bit chilly in the winter months. You should swim with caution and keep a close eye on your children since there are no lifeguards and the waves can get quite strong.
