North Shore Open Space Park is a perfect place to come to the beach and just relax, avoiding the haste, noise, and crowds of the other popular beaches in the area (like South Beach). In addition, it’s a huge well-maintained park with all necessary facilities, shady green areas, and plenty of outdoor space.
Swimming, sunbathing, walking, picnicking are popular activities among the park’s visitors. With this beautiful scenery, it’s a real hidden gem. Bring your family and enjoy some quiet time in Miami Beach!
Location and Access
Located at 7929 Atlantic Way in Miami Beach, North Shore Open Space Park is in the north end of the island. The park may be a bit difficult to find but it’s definitely worth it. There is paid street parking and plenty of free parking nearby.
There are also free trams running to the park – in this case, you’re not going to need parking. The entrance is free. The park is open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day.
Facilities
The park has public restrooms and outdoor showers. There are nice shady areas for picnicking, which is especially valuable in Florida’s scorching sun in summer. You’ll have picnic tables and barbecue grills at your disposal. There are also restaurants and shops in close proximity to the park.
Beach Access
The park’s area, including the sandy beach, is very clean. However, sometimes some parts of the beach get covered by seaweed – it’s just natural. You can rent sunbeds, which are not so neat and quite expensive.
The turquoise water is beautiful and so clear you can see small fish swim by. Besides, it’s warm and shallow, which is great news for families with little children (you can see them here most of the time – kids splashing in the water and building sandcastles). There are lifeguards on duty.
Other Activities
The park is a great place for watching sunrises or sunsets over downtown. If you stay nearby, jogging and exercising in the park in the morning will be a nice start of the day. Locals like to bring their dogs.
Dog Policies
There is a dog park where dogs can run and play so feel free to bring your furry friend!
