Lakeway City Park Beach is one of the splendid Lake Travis beaches. It is a waterfront parkland with beach access to Lake Travis in the City of Lakeway. Locals and out-of-town visitors come here to spend some time with their friends or families swimming, fishing, sunbathing, picnicking, walking, jogging, or cycling. It’s a family-oriented place with two play areas for children, sports grounds, and a pavilion for picnics.
Location and Access
Lakeway City Park is located at 502 Hurst Creek Road. It’s a scenic and relaxing 30-minute drive from downtown Austin. You can also reach the park by water from Hurst Creek Cove. The business hours of the park are from 6 a. m. to 10 p. m. in summer and from 6 a. m. to 8 p. m. in the other seasons.
Park Facilities
There are two different playgrounds, for younger (toddlers; near the main entrance) and older (school age; near the lower level) children, where your little ones can have a blast. For sports enthusiasts, there are sites to play baseball, basketball, or sand volleyball. If you’re planning some special event or just a big picnic, you can reserve a pavilion with two barbecue grills, which are fenced and safe for kids. Reservations must be made two business days in advance. There are also nice grassy areas to sit and picnic.
Trails and Gardens
The park offers two miles of trails for walking, jogging, and cycling, where you can enjoy the shade of junipers and oaks and the scenic lake views. Further down, there is a dog park – a fenced park area for dog owners and their furry friends. There is also a beautiful Butterfly Garden, which was originally created as a memorial to one person and is continually developed and improved as a garden for all Lakeway residents to enjoy.
Water Activities
Lake Travis is a huge water reservoir, used for water supply and conservation, flood control, and recreation. Now, it’s an extremely popular tourist destination. At the beach in Lakeway City Park, various kinds of water recreation are popular, including swimming, kayaking, and fishing. With a limestone bottom and perfectly clear waters, the lake is dazzlingly blue, offering awesome views and good spots for photos.
There are designated areas for swimming, but any swimming is at your own risk since there are no lifeguards on duty. However, you can loan a life jacket at the lower level picnic area. Be aware that the water levels in the lake can change drastically in different periods.
