Jamaica Beach is located off the southeast coast on Galveston Island, Texas. It is close to Galveston city and within an hour drive from Houston, being a perfect place for a one-day beach getaway to unwind from the daily stresses. It’s a safe and relaxing spot for lonely visitors as well as families with children.
There is also Jamaica Beach RV Resort just across the road offering to RV owners a comfortable stay at reasonable prices with a good discount during the off-season. In the RV park as well as on the beach, people are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming.
Access and Parking
The beach boasts a perfect, easily accessible location; it’s a quick drive from Galveston and just about one hour from Houston. The road has only two lanes, making the traffic somewhat annoying. Note that the speed limit is only 35 miles per hour and you’d better not speed up, even if it’s just a few miles over the limit – the police are always there on the watch.
Activities
Jamaica Beach is calm, beautiful, and clean with fine brown sand, good for children’s games and building castles. The water is clean and saltier than on the nearby beaches. The expansive ocean views are very relaxing – it is a great place for meditative walks, beach picnics, photographing, watching picturesque sunsets and sunrises. There are many shells in the sand, you or your children may enjoy collecting some.
Eateries and Accommodation
If you don’t bring your own food, it’s not a problem – there are some really nice restaurants nearby. The beach houses along the shore are cozy and nice-looking, and some of them are offered for rent – check Airbnb and other websites. Another option is to stay in Jamaica Beach RV Resort if you travel in a camping van.
RV Park
Jamaica Beach RV Resort is located just a few minutes away from Jamaica Beach. It’s one of the best RV parks in Galveston, well-maintained and conveniently equipped. The sites are long and flat, close to each other, but very spacious; each is kept clean and equipped with electric, water, sewer, and cable connections. There are individual picnic tables on concrete pads. The natural setting is very nice, featuring a lot of palm trees; and the sea breeze, blowing from the nearby beach, is very refreshing.
If you have any questions or problems, feel free to consult the park personnel – the guys are very welcoming and helpful. There are many entertainment opportunities, including those for kids.
