Warnings and hazards

Parking is challenging – it may be better to take a taxi.

Also called the American Riviera, South Beach is definitely a Miami’s must-visit. With its white-sand beaches, azure water, world-class hotels, and a stunning variety of restaurants, South Beach offers some of the best beach recreations in Miami.

Once you get tired from the beach, you can walk down Lincoln Road for the best people-watching, drop in a cozy bar for a couple of cocktails, or visit Bass Museum of Art for aesthetic pleasure. South Beach offers activities for everybody.

Location and Access

You can find South Beach at Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. The entrance is free. Since the place is extremely popular, it’s often overcrowded and parking can be challenging – sometimes it is easier to go by taxi. If you go by car and don’t mind walking, you can use one of the municipal parking lots, which are much cheaper than street parking. And if you’re looking for more tranquility, enter the beach below 20th Street and go north.

Amenities

There are public restrooms and rinse showers available. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas at various locations throughout the beach. If you get hungry, South Beach offers a huge variety of bars, restaurants, and beach cafes for every taste and budget.

Sand and Water

The beach is very well maintained and most of its areas are clean. The clear turquoise water is warm enough throughout the whole year, but the best time to swim is between April and October. When going into the water, there is a gradual slope and shallow area enough for kids and weak swimmers to enjoy. You can feel quite safe – there are professional lifeguards on duty.

People Watching

South Beach is one of the best places for people-watching in Miami. Here, you can see celebrities, models, and just beautiful people in skimpy swim attire from all over the world. It is also a popular place for fashion photoshoots. Finally, local bars and clubs draw many wealthy people and artistic individuals.

South Beach is very bicycle-friendly, there is a bike trail running around the beach perimeter and bike rental network with many spots to rent and drop off bikes. There are volleyball courts and outdoor gym for sports enthusiasts. If you have kids, they can have a lot of fun at the new playgrounds.
