About this beach

Warnings and hazards

In most areas, dogs must be leashed.

Grapevine Lake was artificially created in 1952 near the city of Grapevine, North Texas, and now is considered to be the best lake in the area around Dallas and Fort Worth. Apart from fulfilling the flood control and water conservation functions, this lake also serves as a recreational destination for locals as well as tourists. It’s a good place for fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, biking, hiking, and camping.

Swimming areas

Although Lake Grapevine is rather large with its shoreline being about 60 miles, it features only two designated swimming areas:

  • The Vineyard’s Campgrounds Beach (available only to people who have rented a campsite here)

  • The Meadowmere Park Beach (open to the public; entrance fee: $5 per car park)

At Grapevine Lake you can sometimes encounter courageous holidaymakers swimming at wild beaches in Katie’s Woods Park, Rockledge Park, and Murrell Park. Bear in mind that they do it at their own risk since swimming here is not approved by the local administration.

Amenities

The lake area features plentiful clean restrooms. There aren’t many eating places around, so it’s better to bring your own food and drinks if you’re planning a picnic or a longer stay. The good news is that there are many picnic tables and grills. There are also fishing piers, soccer and baseball fields, and a children’s playground available.

Access And Parking

The entrance fee depends on the park you’re entering. You may be not charged if you don’t intend to camp or you may have to pay a reasonable fee from 3 to 5 dollars per vehicle. Parking is ample, so it’s not going to be a problem to find a parking space if you go by car. Moreover, the area never gets overcrowded providing enough space for all the visitors and their cars.

Beautiful Landscape

There are picturesque and well-maintained parks and popular hiking trails winding through the woods and hills around the lake. The views are gorgeous! Moreover, during the summer months, they shoot fireworks every Friday, creating a bright and festive mood in peaceful natural surroundings. Overall, Lake Grapevine is a great place to quickly get away – either alone, or with your pet, or with your nearest and dearest – from the stresses of the city.
