About this beach

Warnings and hazards

Motorized watercraft is prohibited.

It’s often windy in the area.

There is little shade.

Lake Pflugerville was created in east Pflugerville for purposes of drinking water conservation and now has become the most popular place for family recreation in the city, providing opportunities for such outdoor activities as swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing. There are also many good spots around the lake for reading, playing, and just relaxing.

Access and Parking

The entrance is free. The lake can get crowded on holidays and weekends, so it’s better to arrive early in the morning to ensure that you have a comfortable relaxation spot on the small beach and a good parking space.

Often, parking is ample and easy since there are several parking lots to make the lake accessible to many people. However, when the parking lots get filled visitors start parking their vehicles on the grass and on the side of the dam.

Swimming

The lake has various water access points and a dedicated beach area, which quickly gets crowded in good weather. The beach is kept clean; the water is quite clear but can contain some water plants like hydrilla. There are many shallow spots for kids to play.

Fishing and Boating

Fishing is a popular activity on the lake. There are a few piers occupied by fishers most of the time. There is plenty of fish: you’re likely to have a big catch of largemouth bass, perch, crappie, and catfish here.

It is prohibited to use motorized watercraft on the lake, but there are a few docks for non-motorized boating and also canoe/kayak/tandem rentals.

Trail

There is a 3-mile trail with a gravel walkway for hiking and biking. There, you can often see people strolling, walking their dogs, or jogging. The trail is flat and easy to walk – a good opportunity to stay away from the crowd and enjoy the views of the surroundings, watch the fishers and the ducks, discover various Texas plants and animals along the way.

On the trail, it is highly recommended to wear sneakers or tennis shoes, have your hat on and bring a water bottle since the Texas sun is unforgivable.

Other Facilities

There are a few covered picnic tables, a shaded pavilion, and a children’s playground. The pavilion can receive up to 125 people and is available to rent for holding personal events ($150 for all-day rental). Public restrooms are non-existent around the lake; however, you can find those at the main eastern entrance.

Visitor questions:

Question: Hi, I'm hoping to do a Triathlon in June 2022 at Lake Pflugerville. What's the water temperature avg. around then? I need to know if I can use a Wet Suit for it. Thanks, Rich D
Asked by Richard Dugan over 2 years ago
Answer: The best time of year to visit Lake Pflugerville for hot-weather activities is from late May to mid-September, with a peak score in the last week of June. In June, water temperatures are typically higher than 78 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning that no wetsuit is needed. Some Triathlon event organizers even prohibit wearing swimsuits if the water temperature exceeds 78 degrees. You'd better check it with the organizers. Good luck! We're keeping our fingers crossed that you win the Triathlon race!
